Empire by Rachel Van Dyken RELEASE DAY BLITZ!!

Empire 0 days

empire smash cover art

I have lost everything.
My purpose
My love
My soul
Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle -- the promise I made her brings me back.
So I breathe.
I live.
I hate.
And I allow the anger to boil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade. I am broken, I don't want to be fixed.
But the Empire is crumbling and it's my job to fix it.
My job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.
A trip to New York, only one chance to redeem a lost part of our mafia family.
The only issue is, the only way to fix it, is to do something I swore I'd never do again.
An arranged marriage.
Only this time,
I won't fall.
Or so help me God, I will kill her myself.
My name is Sergio Abandonoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate?
You have no idea.
I am the mafia.
I am the darkness.
Blood in. No out.

EXCERPT

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.” The minute the words left his mouth. I froze. He froze. The taxi driver stared little laser like holes into the rearview mirror. And Sergio leaned toward me. I swallowed as tension swirled around us. He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.” “You wouldn’t do it.” He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like he had spotted something. I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach. “It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.” “Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!” “Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.” To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused. My body told me to run. The guy had pulled a gun. On me. I didn’t even watch violent movies.

elude

Twenty-Four hours before were were to be married--I offered to shoot her. Ten hours before our wedding--I made a mockery of her dying wish. Five hours before we were going to say our vows--I promised I'd never love her. One hour before I said I do--I vowed I'd never shed a tear over her death. But the minute we were pronounced man and wife--I knew. I'd only use my gun to protect her. I'd give my life for hers. I'd cry. And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl--a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place. I always believed the mafia would be my end game--where I'd lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption. Or the beginning of something beautiful. The beginning of her. The end of us.

Caged D. H Sidebottom
Judd Asher was taken from his front garden when he was just four years old. After an extensive search he was never found. Twenty-one years after a random call out, Judd is found chained and beaten in the basement of an old rundown farmhouse where he has lived the life of an animal for the last twenty-one years. Kloe Grant is assigned as Judd's personal therapist. It's her job to rehabilitate him, to guide him back to normal life. But as Judd's only emotion is rage, Kloe finds it both heart-breaking and challenging mending a soul that's not only broken but caged inside him by the demons of his past. However, when Kloe's relationship with her patient raises some eyebrows, Kloe can't fight against the powers that want to see her fail, and with an arm behind her back, she walks away, leaving behind a man who has come to live life again for her. Four years later Judd, now known as Anderson Cain, the darkest and most formidable cage fighter in a world where violence and crime are the only way to keep breathing, Judd finds there's not a lot in life that can abate the rage that still twists and prowls beneath his skin. Not until a chance encounter brings him to her door. To the woman with the bluest eyes and the most stunning smile, the woman who took his hand in the darkness and led him through the door into the sun. But Kloe Grant left him when he needed her the most. She took the only shred of hope and trust he had left and annihilated it. She starved his belief, and she fed his fury. She owes him. And he's going to make sure that this time, she pays. In blood. In lust. In pain. And with her soul.
My Review
Normal i'd begin a review with an overview of the book and the characters....Instead....this time i'm doing things a little differently!
I'm going to start with a massive, gigantic and fairly riotous round of applause! It takes ALOT to give me a book hangover but i'm currently sitting here with my head in my hands contemplating ways that i can successfully kidnap Ms Sidebottom and force her to reveal the plot for the concluding part 'Chained' (current release date 15th July but up for preorder NOW).
So what was it that got me so hooked? i hear you ask....Absolutely EVERYTHING!!!! I rarely like female leads in books, especially when there's a strong dominate male...they tend to be flaky and one dimensional and bow down far too easily (sorry but its true far too often at the moment!) which just irritates me! however, Kloe is a whole different kettle of 50 shades of fooked up. On the surface you have a super hot therapist with a shady past....dig a little deeper...well...i'm not going to tell you what you're going to find! read the book....trust me....If you're a fan of DARK, twisted skull fuuu---duggery...you NEED to read this book!
Now....to the male in question...and my future husband....i do like a psycho with a soft side...meet Anderson Cain. A man so very broken that the fragments sparkle all over him like shards of diamonds, the one thing holding him together, the one thing driving him forward, fuelling him, is an undeniable animalistic rage. It burns so brightly that women's pants melt within a 50 mile radius.

Now for the boring warning segment of my review....This is pretty hardcore! so if you're looking for a story that has hearts and flowers and men on bended knee (actually....you do get that once or twice -wink-) then this isn't for you! However....if you want a story as dark and gritty and lustfilled as a streetwalkers thong after a hard Friday on the corner? this is the book for you!

Couldn't possibly love this story any more than i do right now......I'm a mess.
5 stars just isn't enough!

GRIT Sector 1: Elias
Series: GRIT
Genre: Dark romance/suspense

Beautiful sunset and dramatic clouds over the south side of Lond

I thought I was safe.
I FOUGHT TO KEEP THEM ALIVE.
I thought I was good.
THERE WAS NO GOOD LEFT HERE.
I thought I was just a girl.
I WAS MORE THAN JUST A MAN.
I didn't see it coming.
I SHOULD HAVE SEEN IT COMING.
Destiny had brought us together.
HISTORY WOULD TEAR US APART.

Twenty-first century London - daytime Freedom is non-existent. Self-expression is confined to sunlight hours. Happiness is on a schedule. Safety is a temporary fixture.
Twenty-first century London - nighttime. Blood cascades over cobbled stones. Criminals emerge from the shadows. The depraved, the deviant, the morally corrupt, own the streets. Happiness comes in the form of final breaths. Safety is found in the shrills of death.
A love story emerges inside the barricades. A story played out many times before... But not like this. It's evolution of tradition. It's insanity fighting to break the cycle. It's history's repetition with hope for a better outcome.
Can love survive in a drowning capital? What if the good guys aren't the good guys? What if the heroes have become the villains?
Trixie Ashford has been living a lie. Elias Blackwood has been creating it.
It is their destiny to meet. It will be their downfall to fall in love…
